Thousands of Indigenous language resources are now available online through the\u00a0Living Archive of Aboriginal Languages<\/a>.\u00a0This website\u00a0enables access to a rich and diverse range of digitised stories in more than 40 Aboriginal languages in the Northern Territory of Australia.<\/p>\n

Many of \u00a0these books \u00a0have been created for use in\u00a0bilingual programs<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0in more than 20 schools in the NT. Aboriginal people from different communities told stories which were recorded and transcribed. These stories ranged from traditional stories to everyday stories to support the learning of children’s first language in school. Sadly today\u00a0there are not many bilingual programs still functioning, but the legacy of those programs is the materials now accessible through the Living Archive website.<\/p>\n

There are many things these resources can be used for, but it is important to acknowledge the ownership<\/strong> of these stories and to use them respectfully<\/strong>. This online education resource has been developed to provide a deeper understanding of how that can be achieved, and to suggest ways to use these materials.<\/p>\n
